Many people have been guilty of misinterpreting Nostradamus prophecies over the centuries, and these inaccurate interpretations have only served to discredit the great prophet. Here are some more Nostradamus quatrains that have also been successfully linked to real historical events:

Quatrain #5-8 describes the bombing of the "classical" German city of Dresden during WWII. The citizens of Dresden never thought their beautiful city would be bombed because it was a hospital city, and also known as the "Florence of the North". Dresden was a great European center for the arts and sciences, and classical Saxon architecture. But during a Mardi Gras celebration on Shrove Tuesday, 1945, the city was the victim of a saturation bombing by allied forces using over 600,000 incendiary bombs (one for every two people in the city) and an additional 5 megatons of high explosives. Unlike the 100,000 people killed at Hiroshima who never knew what hit them, the 200,000 victims at Dresden were slowly burned alive. Witnesses described women running through the streets with their babies in their arms and their hair and clothing on fire, as they were incinerated to death. Churchill's decision to bomb Dresden resulted in the greatest one-day holocaust in the history of warfare. The German people paid a terrible price for Hitler's decision to bomb London.

This quatrain describes Napoleon's 2nd Campaign in Italy, in which he would force march his "Grand Armee" over the Italian Alps in order to rout the army of the "Great Tuscan," the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Ferdinand III, forcing Ferdinand to seek out the safety of his native Austria (home of the Hapsburgs). Napoleon had only recently hatched this incredible plan to cross over the Italian Alps, a feat previously achieved only by the great Hannibal himself.

Here Nostradamus describes for us the famous Battle of Lepanto that took place in the Mediterranean Sea in 1571 (see Q.33-1). The combined Lybian and Ottoman fleets under Ali Pasha were finally defeated by the more heavily armed fleet of the Catholic League, the Great One (Chouluk Bey) of Africa was finally put to flight, and the balance of power in the Mediterranean was now altered in favor of Rome.

Here Nostradamus describes for us the murder of the Duke de Guise. When the kitchen washboy reveals a plot by Dominican cooks to poison the food of Henry III, King Henry decides to end this treachery by ordering the murder of his Catholic rival for the throne, the Duke of Guise. In December of 1588 Henry invites the Duke to his Chateau at Blois and has three of his palace guards, disguised as prisoners, jump the Duke and stab him to death. The following day, the Duke's brother Louis, also in line for the throne, is murdered as well.

This is another example of Nostradamus' famous wordplay on Hitler's name, combining "Hitler" with "Ister," giving us both Hitler's name and place of origin (Ister is the Latin word for the Danube). Hitler (see Q.#4-68) and Mussolini would meet many times near Venice, also known as "The Kingdom of Italy," and power would then be returned to the secular city of Venice from its papal seat in Rome. Italy would be transformed into a fascist republic under the leadership of its new ruler, Benito Mussolini.

During the Napoleonic wars, the British and Russians must deal with the French naval threat in the eastern Mediterranian Sea. British ships come under attack near the "free" city of Fiume in the northern Adriatic. This gives the British a rare opportunity to expand the sea war to include the Ottoman fleets operating in the area. The British navy ultimately proves superior to both the French and Turkish fleets, and the British will force the Ottomans to sign the Treaty of the Dardenelles, effectively closing off the Black Sea to the French fleet, thus protecting the Russian navy from harm.
NOSTRADAMUS QUATRAIN #5-57

This is one more example of Nostradamus using proper names in his prophecies. This quatrain describes a famous battle that took place in Belgium in 1794, when Montgolfier, inventor of the hot air balloon, used the device to spy from the air on enemy moves during the Battle of Fleurus. The French army soon overran the Austrian army, mostly due to Montgolfier's new surveillance device, and the French were able to sack the booty of the churches of Belgium and Holland, which gave them an economic advantage, and would ultimately lead to the downfall of pope Pius VI at the hands of Napoleon.
NOSTRADAMUS QUATRAIN #5-72

After the accidental death of King Henry II in a jousting match in 1559, the Catholic Church declared that the Count de Guise was the rightful inheritor of the French throne. When the people elected Henry's young son Francis II to be the new king, Nostradamus tells us that the Church hatched an evil plot to poison the new king and capture the throne by treachery. Two Dominican friars were dispatched from Italy to work in the royal kitchens and secretly mix snake venom into the meat fed to the king. Young Francis had always walked with a limp, and was thus perceived to be a rather sickly young man. When Francis succumbed to the poisoning, no one suspected that he had been the victim of a Church plot.
NOSTRADAMUS QUATRAIN #5-92

In the blissful economic era of the 1920's, Pope Pius XI was elected to the papacy, and held that seat for 17 years (1922-1939). Five more like revolving papal terms brings us to another similarly prosperous economic period during the 1970's and the election of John Paul II, marking the first time in 450 years that a non-Italian pope was elected to the Holy See. Pope John Paul II was described by the prophet Malachy with the Latin phrase "labore solis" or he who "works in solitude," and indeed Pope John Paul II worked alone without the support of many of his own bishops, who often issued opinions that opposed his own. John Paul II's papacy marked a great "falling away" from traditional church teachings by Catholics demanding the right to abortion, women in the priesthood, and a host of other liberal changes in the Church. But Pope John Paul II stood firm in demanding that Catholics continue to honor traditional church laws and beliefs.
