Many of Nostradamus' prophecies refer to the coming of a shadowy figure known as "Hister". A great portion of Nostradamus' writings are devoted to this mysterious figure. Nostradamus was known to play word games with certain names in order to confuse those attempting to interpret his prophecies before their time. The word "Hister" is thought to be a combination of the two words "Hitler" and "Ister," thus describing both the name and place of birth of Adolf Hitler. The word "Ister" comes from the Latin word for the Danube River in Germany upon whose banks Adolf Hitler was born. There are many prophecies about Adolf Hitler that do indeed seem to refer to actual historical events surrounding his life and career, and the following prophecy is a typical example of Nostradamus' specific references to the infamous Nazi leader:

In this quatrain Nostradamus tells us about a secret meeting that took place between Adolf Hitler and Italy's dictator Benito Mussolini on June 2nd, 1940 at the Brenner Pass near Venice, to discuss Italy's formal entry into the Second World War. It was agreed at this meeting that Mussolini would declare war on Britain and France, and that Italy would initiate an African campaign. Hitler would then sign the Tripartite treaty with the Japanese, extending the war into Asia. Just over a week later, on June 10th, 1940, Italian forces began their attacks on the island of Malta and the Ligurian coast of France.
So far, modern scientists and historians have been unable to explain how Nostradamus was able to accomplish this amazing feat of prophecy over 350 years before the event actually took place.
