Soon after the 9-11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City, Nostradamus followers all over the world proclaimed that this event had been foretold by the great prophet. Many self proclaimed Nostradamus "experts" came up with verses allegedly written by Nostradamus that supposedly contained detailed information about the New York City tragedy. In actuality these so-called "experts" had pieced together lines from different Nostradamus quatrains in their vain attempts to explain the 9-11 event. These false verses were very soon discredited, but caused the American public to ignore the fact that a Nostradamus quatrain had in fact been previously interpreted as describing an attack upon New York City involving its towers or skyscrapers. In 1981, author Erika Cheetham wrote in her famous book The Man Who Saw Tomorrow - The Prophecies of Nostradamus, that Prophecy #1-87 described a future attack on New York City. The following interpretation of this now famous prophecy was in fact published in many Nostradamus books far in advance of the World Trade Center attack of September 11th, 2001:
PROPHECY #1-87
Earthshaking fire from the center of the Earth
Will cause trembling around the New City.
Two great rocks will be at war for a long time
Then Arethuse reddens the new river
Ms. Cheetham stated in her 1981 book that the quatrain above described an explosion in the center of the City of New York making the land tremble. She also felt that the explosion would involve New York's towers or skyscrapers. It would now appear that Erika Cheetham's popular interpretation of this controversial prophecy may have in fact come true exactly as Nostradamus predicted it would over 400 years ago. The following revised interpretation of this now famous prophecy reflects a much more accurate English translation taken from the original Old French version of the poem.
PROPHECY #1-87 (corrected translation)
Enormous-promontories on fire in the center of the mainland.
Enno-sigee feu du centre de terre
Will cause trembling in the towers of the City of New York.
Fera trembler au tour de Cite Neufve
Two great rock-monoliths continuously will be attacked.
Deux grands rochiers longtemps feront la guerre
This is when air-vessels shall turn-around to a new course.
Puis are-thuse rou-gira nouveau fleuve

While the first three lines of the original quatrain had been translated with a certain degree of accuracy, the last line turned out to be totally incorrect. The key word "rougira" was originally translated as "reddens," from the French word "rouge" meaning "red". The French verb "rougir" does indeed mean "redden". But when you add the letter "a" to the end of the word, it now becomes "rougira" which is the future tense of the Old French verb "rougire," meaning to "turn around" (rou-gira: round-gyrate).
The word "Arethuse" is still used today to describe a class of "tubular- shaped metal sea-vessels" or "submarines". If you were to expand the size of the two wings on the sides of an Arethuse-Class submarine, that allow it to fly through the water, it suddenly begins to resemble the tubular-shaped metal vessels that Nostradamus saw in his now famous vision that were able to fly through the air.
The final word in the last line of the quatrain is "fleuve," which is a French noun meaning "river," but if you check in Cassells' French Dictionary (ISBN #0-02-522620-7), you will find that the Classical 16th century meaning of the word "fleuve" was "course". This now corrected translation of the mistranslated last line now takes on an entirely new and haunting meaning. It turns out that Nostradamus may not only have been trying to warn us about what the terrorists were planning to do, but also how they were planning to accomplish the deed!
Could it be possible that Nostradamus was actually trying to warn us about the 9-11 attack? Was Nostradamus a true Hebrew prophet?
